Welcome

A journalistic travel note from Bumbletop to The Four Winds Keep

As the darkness of night descends upon the lands, a ghastly fog begins to cover the land. No crickets chirping, no sounds from the usual creatures of the night, only a suggestive silence. Like the calm before a storm yet to come. It is through these circumstances that I made my way towards the Tipsy Gypsy Inn and Tavern. On assignment from the Bumbletop Post, on a journalistic trek to find out what exactly was going on at the tower. Rumors are spreading like wild fire, and official documents have been posted, all concerning the same names, Aldanon, Vadrentoth, Va In, Cathmoor, a Graveyard, the Evil Pirate Captain who seeks do destroy the tower itself. Little did I know that 'facts' were only the surface of the problems facing the denizens of the tower and its surrounding areas. The following are the strange encounters I had on my way to the Tipsy Gypsy.

While walking one of the lesser known paths towards my destination I noticed a shift in the lands, from the once vibrant and lush fauna to a scattering of bare decrepit trees, with twisted trunks. Suddenly I turn and saw a most peculiar creature standing behind me. His face was white, almost like that of a court jester, yet his features were twisted and a large symbol of Chaos swirled about its smiling face. " Your here a little early my good MAN!! It is still a half moon at least until...oooohhh ALL-HallLoWs!. I am not yet prepared for guests. You see, this is my house. Somehow you managed to stumble onto my plane, and into my house...and EARLY no less. So as you can see, the dinosaurs have been getting a little frisky with the pair-o-boots trees and I need to untangle my teeth before I can set afoot on the decking halls, so If you would please be on you way." With that the stranger turned me about and patted my bottom sending me on my way. After a few steps I fell through, what I can only describe as a hole in existence, and landed smack dab in the middle of the woods.

It was at that time that the ground began to shake, not constant however, only in intervals...regular intervals, just like the footsteps of a Giant. And what did I do you might ask as these tremors began getting louder, a sign that the apparent beast was heading my way. Well I did what any self respecting hobling would do, I hid...and quite well I might add. Soon as I peered out of my small hiding spot in the direction that the tremors seem to be originating, it began to get dark. All to quickly was the sun blotted from the sky by a gargantuan being that was moving faster than I expected. It had the body of a true giant, but its skin looked like bark and it had the largest thorns coming off its hide that I had ever seen. Before I knew it the being was past me and heading away. Once the beast was far enough away I began to come out of hiding, but quickly retreated as I heard a large group approaching. Again I peered out to find a large group of black skinned orcs running at full speed from the same direction as the giant. As most of the group moved past my hiding spot the sounds of battle began towards the rear of the group. From the front of the group a voice called out, "LEAVE THEM, WE GO ON WITH MASTER. THEY ARE DEAD ALREADY!" Indeed the voice was right. I looked towards the rear to find that no orcs were left standing, only the bloodied remnants lay on the ground. Quite suddenly another voice began to speak, only this time it was from right above me. "Come on out little one, I mean you no harm so long as you leave the graveyard alone." I stepped out to find myself face to face with a man wearing a white tabbard and a red cowl. His features seemed a little giant, and blood ran from his lips and covered his hands. I asked him if he did all this alone. His reply chilled me to the bone as I caught sight of two massive fangs protruding from his mouth. "I did indeed. Not for sport I assure you. You see they were about to attack the tower, but decided to try the graveyard first, so they earned its wrath. It would be wise to stay closer to the main roads, especially after dark my young traveler." He gave a light grin and turned and walked away through the wood. After only a few steps away, I could no longer see where he had went.

Once my initial fright ended I gathered my bearings. It seems that I was much closer to the main road into town, and only about an hour walk away, so I began my trek anew. Day had turned to dusk, and the fog began again. Before getting to the town I came across a large graveyard I had not remembered before. Upon closer inspection I found it was no ordinary cemetery. The fence was made of bones and its large gate was as well, however it also seemed that as night further took its grasp, the bones began to also have rotting flesh on them, giving off a putrid and fetid stench. Remembering the words of the vampire earlier, I decided it was best not to stay, and I proceeded onward towards the town proper.

The town was eerily quiet and I found the Tipsy Gypsy easy enough. The tavern keep spoke with me a little, most of it was inconsequential, however she did mention that I might want to bring goodies with me if I plan on being here on All Hallows Eve, as it seems a group of trick-or-treaters will be hassling the townsfolk for goodies. Which would be a welcome annoyance considering the day I just had.
